Make an offer

This month we're trialling a new way for players to obtain Fate via various advertising offers. You can find the offer wall on the Fate tab, under the usual payment interface. This is a fairly standard practice for browser games, and we hope it will provide our more cash-strapped players with a welcome opportunity. A few points we'd like to make clear:

- The offers are provided by a third party. We don't choose them directly, but we do have some say over the kind of material that appears, and we can block specific offers that we consider inappropriate or objectionable. If you see something you don't like, let us know.

- Offers are not compulsory! If you're a direct payer, nothing has changed. And hey, thanks for the support.

- As mentioned above, this is only a trial. We'll re-examine the system in a month and go from there. In the meantime, do give them a try, and let us know how they work out for you.

cheers

Paul

PS: Exceptional Friends, we'll have some exciting news for you in the next few days. Stay tuned...

More videos! Lots of little rewards are easier to deal with than one large one that requires registrations.

Tried some of these out and am up 24 fate. Another few vids and I'll recoup the Zubmarine. Hurrah!
While I was sceptical about this initially, I like that there's so much choice. And the 1 fate video thing is fabulous for just bolstering the reserves a little or getting just that one more move.

Fantastic news, I was sad when these went away before. Now if there could just be some easy interface to point non-players at so they can buy me Fate, I'd be sorted, cos my birthday's coming up.

I concur with the call for more videos. This is generally a great idea though. Fate is something I can't afford regularly so something like this is a perfect way around the limitation of some content being totally off limits to me.

Ah, interesting. Though I'd love to support Echo Bazaar, I am rather short on cash at the moment, so this is a godsend for all those little stories that my OCD won't let me complete because there's a branch that costs a few crumbs of Fate.

Some of the surveys do bother me a bit, though -- I'm not comfortable with giving away personal information over an unsecured network.

Thank you very much for offering this. The offers aren't dissimilar in variety or type from other games that use this system and I hope that you'll find that it works out for your needs, too.

Hmmm... Tempted, but those websites look pretty dodgy.

Some of them do, I think that Videos are going to be my limit.

A couple of them worked for me; two points from one site, nine from another and one from the video for a total of 12 fate. Most of them either don't report correctly or ask for way too much personal information. Many of the ones that don't report right are still willing to send the spam e-mail they offered in exchange for the fate.

I'd like it better if it were more reliable. Watching an advertisement for a fate point is a fair deal (I'm willing to watch commercials for eventual access to premium content), but those fly-by-night mailing lists that comprise the vast majority of the service aren't good at all.

I've bought fate directly a couple times and will probably buy again, but I'd like to be able to supplement those with small nonpayment bonuses. Mainly, I enjoy spending money on fate for larger stories, but find it a waste on the 2-6 point optional ones and think this would be a good way to earn fate for those if it worked better. I'd appreciate it if someone at FBG would ask the advertising company for higher-quality ads.

I don't seem to be able to see any video-related offers. There is a big blank space under the survey offers though.

Unfortunately, choice depends on country of residence-as someone living in Germany, I got exactly TWO videos, and a lot of dodgy offers of surveys (I did that last time when you tried this kind of thing for Fate and still suffer from the resultant spam!) and exactly one offer that wasn't downloading some programme or buying stuff- so it would be more fun if the offers showed more variety, but as you prolly can't control that...it basically means after doing three things from the whole list I'm done and can never get any more Fate this way I suppose? Or do these change over time?

That's all well and done - but what about the library? Do you only get one shot at winning the case of books? Gathered it all and yet - gone? Frown

We've got some control over the kind of offers that are excluded - we can block individual problem ones and also specify policy. We've requested a sterner policy, so with luck there'll be a smaller number of better quality offers.

We can't, unfortunately, add or request any additional offers - it's down to what the offer companies think is worth their while. So we can't ask for any more videos, alas.

Thanks for all your feedback. We'll continue to monitor and tweak.

What happens when we sign up for an offer, but the fate is not reported? As Guest mentioned upthread, these companies are already sending me email.

Could you perhaps add an email that confirms when the fate is rewarded?  Because there are a few of the offers I did that I'm not exactly sure actually gave me anything, and it definitely takes longer to reward than the little prompt says it will.  Thanks.

@Priscilla - use the Get Help link on the Fate page to chase SuperRewards about it. If you're getting emails before the Fate has come through, that sounds wrong. And also please email us at purchases@failbettergames.com so we know something's amiss - we can block specific offers if they're problematic.

@xShurikenx - I think it may have been you who suggested this on the feedback forum? It's a good idea and we've added it to the dev to-dolist.

@New - that's odd. Can you try clicking the Get Help link and following up with SuperRewards? If you get no joy, let us now at ebbugs at failbettergames.com and we'll chase them.

@xshurikenx - yup, we keep a light touch there, but we read literally *everything* at least once.

@Donald - have you tried clicking the Get Help link and following up with SuperRewards? (Am I correct in thinking you're connecting from Poland too? That may be a common thread.)

I think this is a great idea. I'll steer clear of the 'survey' (read, let's be honest, e-mail mining) companies, but I do appreciate another way to earn fate.

While I completely love the idea, I wish there was a way to make it more reliable. Only 2 or 3 offers actually gave me Fate; most of them just throw you into an endless (trust me, I tried) loop of offers so you never get to a confirmation page. Other ones I completed (like playsushi) never gave me Fate. I think for now, I'll resign myself to being fateless Smile I appreciate the idea, though.

@New & Donald:

I can't see any fate offers from one account, but I can see them just fine from another.  I did a bit of web searching, and this is symptomatic of being banned by SocialGold.  Apparently they ban you if you log in from a proxy service.  This would have been nice to know,  since I often use proxy services when traveling overseas and now I can't access any fate offers (including spending my own money to buy it!)  >Frown

I've written to them to try to get them to unban my account.

@Alexis: maybe it would be worth adding a note to the fate tab warning about turning off proxy servers and VPN before purchasing and/or clicking on offers?  I've searched that page and the SocialGold website and found no warnings.

@ICIown4U

Thank you. I don't use proxy, so I don't know why I was banned.  But it's still better to know what happened.
So, no premium for me, huh. Frown

@New, @Donald - I don't know about Social Gold banning, but SuperRewards do sometimes ban for no obvious reason. Do follow up with us if you get no joy from them - we can usually get you whitelisted.
