The Foreign Office, and more...

Is it quiet in here? It's a bit quiet, isn't it?

We haven't added any content to Echo Bazaar for a few weeks, because we've been working like dextrous little rats on a couple of really big new sections. The first of these, the Foreign Office, will be released later this week, and we'll be raising the Persuasive cap to 130 to celebrate. It's a spooky tale of intrigue and espionage in the subterranean corridors of power beneath Wilmot's End, and it's positively stuffed with secrets. Investigate the Face and the Teeth, the two warring factions of Fallen London diplomacy, recruit spies, drink some very suspect tea, and... hang on, what the hell is that THING on the roof?

Next, we have something a bit special for our well-heeled Shadowy players: the chance to edit your very own newspaper! Journey to  Doubt Street, home of the Unexpurgated London Gazette and other less savoury publications! Go head to head with Mr Huffam in a battle for scandalous scoops and Neath-shaking exclusives! Will you be a fearless hound of the truth or a shameless gossip monger? This huge chunk of story comes with a brand new social action - you'll be able to interview your friends about their Ambitions - and a Shadowy cap bump to 130. And of course, you'll be able to name your own newspaper. Mine is The Elderwick Enquirer. What will yours be?

But wait, there's more! Do you follow the most accurate predictions of Madame Shoshana?  Do you burn to know your own Chiropteromantical sign? The uncanny Madame has agreed, after considerable persuasion, to offer private readings to the denizens of Fallen London. Are you glacial, igneous, even speleothemic? Are you perhaps a cat, or a bear, or a crow? Or do you have the terrible misfortune to be born under the sign of the Hunter? The consulting tent will be open very soon.

As if that wan't enough, we're adding a scatter of new opportunity cards at high levels, and we're making some adjustments to content sharing. You may find that Echoing your activities brings the occasional delicious surprise. We'll leave you to discover the details...

Well, I must say this all sounds most exciting. I wonder if my plea for more middle-level activities has been heard among the Masters...

hm. are we getting back to the core thread of the game? all the cycling PoSI stuff is interesting for what it is, but I long to go back to the Correspondence, the promised colonies across the Zee, the...er, I guess Dangerous and Shadowy didn't really have such distinct threads to follow. but still.

I love all the new content, but what about Mahoganey Hall and playing with broken toys? When are you going to finish them?

I'm still hoping for more with Jack-of-Smiles, Feducci and His Amused Lordship, myself, but this promises to be interesting.

I wonder if the newspaper is a continuation of Muckraker of the Neath?

Gotta agree with the other comments, while new content is delicious I really would like to see some of the many long running threads being finally drawn together...

Regarding long-running threads, I've already seen new Eater-of-Chains and Palace Cellars content in cards, so I'm a very happy player. Time to get exceptionalised again.

I see.

Well, perhaps it is permissible to place on the record that I'm enjoying the new content, and I am satisfied that some long-running threads are indeed drawing together at last.

I just "won" Dark Drop Coffee from echoing an action. Is this random or does it always happen?

I don't understand how to qualify for the Foreign Office. If there is an opportunity card to to give me  A Diplomat in the Making 1 or another way to get that I haven't found it. Help! Else I'm enjoying the new content.

Hi Julian,

Access to the Foreign Office is granted by an opportunity card concerning a visit by the Servant of a Certain Gentleman. The card will appear anywhere in the city as long as you are a Person of Some Importance, have been exiled from Court, and have a Persuasive of 115 or more.

Best wishes,

Chris

I am happy about new things!  But am loathe to get myself exiled from court, as it's one of the things I really like playing. I still want to go back to the University, where I was happiest, and if that ever happens then I might consider giving up court life! But I fear my dear character is not as interested in the skulkings and assassinations and the like as in charming delicious people and most importantly the Correspondence! (So this is me asking for a trip back to the University, but not a complaint about anything. I've just come back from catching a plated seal on the Unterzee and will begin investigating the new things now!)

I still don't know how to start the Newspaper storylet. If there's an opportunity card for that, it seems to elude me...

Has anyone figured out how to view your newspaper's name after you name it?

Dear Abe,

You can find your newspaper in the expanded inventory unlocked by being a Person of Some Importance, where your constant companions, transport, home comforts and club membership are located.

Just point your cursor at the paper to see its name.
