The House of Chimes

We've got a little bonus for our Exceptional Friends next week. In addition to the usual benefits, subscribers will gain access to the House of Chimes, an exclusive private members club on the Stolen River. The mysterious Mr Chimes holds court in this emporium of forbidden pleasures, constructed in the ruins of a rather famous clock tower.

What you can find in the House of Chimes:

The 50-FOOT STORYLET

A spine-chilling vignette of love and spiders from interactive fiction legend and EBZ contributor Emily Short (Secrets Framed in Black, The Big Rat)

A chance to deepen your acquaintance with  the Regretful Soldier, in Brian Millar's tale of the last British cavalry charge against the devils of the Neath.

Gaming tables for the discerning player of Baccarat or Heart's Hazard

Private Rooms for members who wish to conduct their affairs in a keyhole-free environment

Immediate access to the opening chapters of many Fallen London tales, including Intimate of Devils, the Cheesemonger and Shroom Hopping.

Immediate access to honeyed laudanum and Fate gifting, via Mr Chimes itself.

What you won't find in the House of Chimes are major plot revelations, secret ambitions or anything that is vital to the Echo Bazaar experience. It's just a place to kick back, enjoy a glass of warm Greyfields and swap stories by the fireside. We hope you enjoy it.

A query: supposing I start a story in the House, and it isn't completed by the time my Exceptional Friend subscription runs out, and for one reason or another I decide to not renew for a bit (perhaps because I want to save Exceptional Friendship for when there's a big chunk of new content released or something). Will I be able to play that story to the end or will I have to renew to keep it going?

is this a one week only deal? I want to become an Exceptional Friend but I'm traveling so much this next month that it isn't worth it for me to sign up until July.

There's a major revelation already: one's supposed to drink Greyfields warm?

Arthur: All House of Chimes content takes place within the House itself, so it's only playable while you're there, but if you start a story, it will still be waiting for you if you take a break from EF membership and come back later.
M: Nope, the House will - we hope - be open indefinitely.

Joe: it depends on the vintage, and who you talk to.

Sadly, I lost Acquaintance: Regretful Soldier by picking a fight with him too early; can I actually regain his acquaintance at the House of Chimes? If not, any chance of making the "Deal with a drunk old soldier" available at higher levels (ie 120)?

Hmm, Greyfields drunk warm: that'd mean it's a mulled/spiced wine, yes? Interesting...

@Joe - Interestingly, mushroom wines are practical and potable: http://duramecho.com/Food/NoveltyWines.html

@James Walker

I did the same exact thing and now I'm wondering if you can regain his trust. I wouldn't know I'm in good standing with the other acquaintances.

I too would love a chance to renew the acquaintance of the regretful soldier.

hear hear, i would also like to see a way to become an acquaintance to the soldier. Perhaps a fate based way, like the repentant forger?

House of Chimes is awesome so far. Especially excited about the Emily Short content--that was really cool.
